Welcome to MCCI’s new humanitarian page. This month I’d
like to introduce you to H.E.L.P. International, a local non-
profit agency that’s located in Johnstown, Colorado. H.E.L.P.
International is on a mission to transform communities,
provide humanitarian aid and respond to disasters across
H.E.L.P. International is a faith based agency that founded in
2000 by Don and Jean-Kaye Wilson after they traveled to
Romania as part of a mission team. Jean is a nurse and
during an outreach the doctor at a large orphanage
discovered that there was an American nurse in the facility.
He requested a meeting and proceeded to pour out his
heart, explaining that he was responsible for 800 children.
Many of these children had life threatening illnesses such as
asthma and HIV. When he led them to the medicine cabinet
in his infirmary, they were shocked to see no medicine at
all…only empty boxes. “Please! Can you help me?” the
doctor cried. Jean and Don had already toured the rest of
the facility, noting that there were 2-3 children to a bed, few
linens or blankets to keep them warm, and only a few
broken toys. Most of the children didn’t even know how to
play when they tried to engage them in games. This pieced
their hearts to the core and Don and Jean returned to the
U.S. determined to do everything they could.
Jean got on her soap box and began to present the cause to
anyone and everyone she knew in the medical profession.
She said she had just been to Romania and witnessed a
huge travesty of injustice. Children were suffering and she
asked them what they were going to help her do about it.
Within 6 months she had collected enough funds and
donated items to fill and ship their first of many containers
with medical and humanitarian aid supplies, as well as toys.
Word got out and requests began to pour in from other
countries. They applied for and achieved non –profit status
and asked God what they should call their organization.
God spoke to Jean’s heart in the form of question. “What do
these people need and what are you going to do?” Help
was the answer and it still is. H.E.L.P. stands for “His
Everlasting Love Prevails” and the goal is to be the hands
and feet of Jesus. Since its inception, H.E.L.P. has
continued to evolve; sending medical and humanitarian
teams and shipping humanitarian aid to more than 119
LOCALLY: H.E.L.P. at Home serves as a liaison between
those who have much and those who have little. It reclaims
supplies and equipment that would otherwise fill landfills
and uses them in community development; offering
assistance to crisis pregnancy centers, homeless services,
and disaster relief agencies, to name a few. Some
donations go to a local thrift store in Longmont called
“Hope’s Storehouse”. The profits are used to fund their
activities locally and abroad.
All donations, whether in loving service, sharing of goods or
finances, are used to meet the needs of others. Their
purpose is to touch people in need with the uncompromised
love of Jesus.
NATIONALLY: H.E.L.P. International embraces the
blessings we have as Americans. Their love for this country
and its people is an integral part of not only what they do,
but who they are. They love to serve our fellow countrymen
and citizens, whether it’s offering medical assistance and
much needed food and supplies in the midst of a disaster,
or reaching out to the indigent in our Native American
GLOBALLY: H.E.L.P. International is part of the STARFISH
NETWORK of disaster relief agencies who are 1st
responders to a crisis.
H.E.L.P. International is very grateful for the love
demonstrated by people just like you and me who have
made it possible to reach out to orphans, widows, the sick,
the lonely, and the forgotten in the midst of global disaster,
wars and economic crisis.
Over $83 million dollars of humanitarian aid and medical
supplies have been shipped from the warehouse to over 97
countries around the world.
